JOHN RUDD MEMORIAL RACE SERIES

In association with the

TOUR DE FRANCE 2007

Race details

The ASTRATECH JOHN RUDD MEMORIAL RACE SERIES 2007 in association with the TOUR DE FRANCE 2007 will combine two events:

  • INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL 35km SATURDAY 7th JULY BETTESHANGER RACE CIRCUIT, near Deal in Kent

  • ROAD RACE 45min + 1 lap SUNDAY 8th JULY HYDE PARK, CENTRAL LONDON

As part of the EHC and WHF World Cup the races will count for points - but both races will be amalgamated into a combined result.

'As part of the Fowlmead Country Park development, the Betteshanger circuit is a 3.5km six-metre wide cycle circuit with its eight-metre start and finish straight has been built. The circuit will be the venue for the 35km (10 Lap) Individual Time Trial that will be a test for the riders over the undulating but fast circuit. The circuit is the largest purpose built closed track racing circuit in the UK, part of an £18.7m regeneration which includes a 3.5km road circuit, BMX track and mountain bike trails. The Time trials will commence at 1300hrs

It is hoped this venue will be the centrepiece for future international handcycling events.

The Road Race on Sunday 8th July is around Hyde Park on part of the Tour de France Prologue route, in front of massive crowds as part of the 'Hyde Park Cycling Festival.' The 45min + 1 lap race will be the Final race in the 'Hyde Park Cycling Festival' starting at 1630hrs. The prize ceremony will begin shortly after the conclusion of the race.

Our race will be within a series of high profile cycling events held within the confines of the park. Running in parallel will be a ‘Peoples Village’ celebrating cycling in London and its communities.
